I know you probably thought it was for skiers and snowboarders, but I love this place.
Kevin is accusing me of becoming more outdoorsy. But trust me, I packed my highest heels, and I’ve already put them to good use! Plus, apparently every running outfit I’ve worn featured pink. Haha.
The very first thing we did after checking into our cabin was go for a run before dark! This is the view running towards downtown Breckenridge from our cabin.
Friday mileage total: 2.05 with the dogs.
Saturday morning — I woke up raring to go. After scoping it out on Friday night, I knew this place would provide some amazing hill training.
I decided that since there’s snow here (omg), Christmas music would be appropriate. I don’t really every run with headphones any more…. it can be hazardous with Pippa, and I’m a hyper paranoid city runner… so I play the music over my speakers for everyone to enjoy. Haha. Pippa and I ran down the 1 mile hill into Breckenridge, explored the town a bit, and ran back up for an even 5 miles. I only got lost once. Meanwhile, Kevin made breakfast.
My favorite English muffin & fried egg sandwich + some turkey bacon we imported from Sprouts.
Kevin was jealous that I got exercise in the morning — so that evening we checked out one of the paths starting downtown.
My ulterior motive was to scout it out for a possible race next year (Breck Crest). But I later found out I went the wrong direction. Oops. I’ll try the other way tomorrow.
Loved running here!! There were a couple of choices of paths (including one paved) and it seems like they go on forever!
We left the dogs at home because Pippa was pretty tired from the morning run, and Boyd is… Boyd.
You never know when your WOD skills will come into handy… jumping off rocks for blog pics. Haha. Trust me. Kevin had to reassure me that I would be able to make the jump. Still got the prissy.
Saturday mileage total: 9.1
Of course, I was complaining in the car afterwards that we couldn’t run .90 more for an even ten. That’s completely normal runner behavior! Even on vacation. What can I say? It’s one of my hobbies!!!
This morning…
We took our two fluffy little rascals to the Breckenridge dog park! Can you believe Pippa hasn’t been to a dog park yet??? Our dogs are sooo deprived!! Kevin and I are super nervous helicopter parents!! With good reason. Pippa check all exits thoroughly. And Boyd is a little overzealous with new friends. Haha. It’s safe to say they had the time of their LIVES. I’m so happy we decided to bring them with us on our mini vacation. I know you are going to laugh — but we would miss them so much if we left them for 4 days!
Round trip: 2.71 miles
This evening, we headed out from our cabin to do a little exploring! I was going to leave Pippa at home, but she was DYING when I started putting on my shoes so we brought her along.
Kevin loves that it’s shadier here than any of the other places we’ve hiked in Colorado. LOVE the sunshine, but it can be a little oppressive when you’re hiking/running.
I liked the muddy meter!
It wasn’t too bad!
Kevin says he never gets pics with Pippa Cordelia. Haha.
But she loves me more!!!!
There is a trio of neighborhood dogs who come out to greet us each time we pass. So cute!!!!
Can I just say that I saw ZERO wildlife warning signs?!
You know how happy it made me not to feel like I had to watch out for rattlesnakes!?!?! I had a nightmare about one wrapping itself around my leg, and Kevin thinking I was crying “wolf.” That would happen in real life. Lol.
You know what we do get to run past in our cabin’s neighborhood? Some pretty sweet rustic mansions. Haha. This one was Kevin’s pic, although I told him rustic is not my style! I’m more into the Victorian & scallops we saw downtown.
Man, the only thing this cabin is missing is a washing machine!!! I guess I underestimated the number of workout clothes I needed. Maybe I should head back to that outlet mall — it has a Nike store!
Today’s total mileage: 8.36 — none very fast!! There were slippery/rocky parts on those trails.
I promise we’ve been doing more than just running, you KNOW we’ve been eating. :) More on that later. For now, I can’t believe how much I love Breckenridge!!! I didn’t see that one coming. It’s definitely my favorite place we’ve visited in Colorado! Maybe because it reminds us a little bit of Minnesota? We’re a little bit homesick this weekend… Kevin’s side of the family had a little getaway that we sadly weren’t able to make, and I’m wishing I could see my little sister run VARSITY in xc. :/ The good news is… Christmas is coming!! :)
Have you listened to any Christmas music yet this year? Admit it!!
What’s your favorite close-to-home getaway? Breckenridge. We are definitely coming back for snowshoeing. And more running!
What’s your favorite color to wear running? Pink. Or orange. Or bright green. Definitely neons. They help people not run you over! I’m working on getting more colorful winter workout wear. The black depresses me in cold weather.
